In 2003 Laurie was diagnosed with brain cancer. For many years, she was cancer free until the summer of 2018. She underwent brain surgery over the summer and is continuing with a variety of different therapies to aid her recovery. Laurie is a published author and public speaker who enjoy spending time with her family. Laurie has a daughter “who is her whole world”, 2 grandsons, and 2 Pomeranians. Dr. Nelson, Laurie’s husband, is a well-liked teacher at Combs High School and we are inspired by their courage.
In July 2018 Jessie was diagnosed with stage 3 invasive ductile carcinoma, a type of breast cancer. She is still undergoing treatments and plans to be done with chemo the week of Thanksgiving! There is a long road to recovery still ahead but she continues to stay positive and strong! Jessie and her husband, Nate, and their 4 children have lived in the Combs School District for over a decade and continue to be a great addition to the Combs family.
In 2007 at age 2, Troy was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia or ALL. Our dear friends, Dave and Susie Packer, created this 5K run to help offset his medical bills. Since then the Turkey Waddle has helped many families in our community who suffer from life threatening illnesses. Troy is now a freshman at Combs High School and continues to be cancer free!
